The Sanctuary - Rabbits - Zark the Magic Bunny

Zark in the bathroom
"It's A Darn Shame"
Good Day to you.

I appreciate the time you give to me. I hope my words are ones you enjoy. Though my subject in this, my first outpouring upon your Internet pages, is one of some sadness. Ultimately, it will turn to one of joy. Though that day is not yet here.

I am currently stuck in what is called the bathroom. Separated from my family, tortured at least two times during each light time, in pain. Mine is not a joyful lot at this time.

Why has my life turned to such a dismal state? A sore has developed upon the bottom of my foot and the the area around it is inflamed with infection. And so to protect me from further disease and injury, the human picked me up and carried me into this minute torture chamber. Before continuing, let me assure you I am on the mend. The inflammation is less than it was a week ago. The pain is less as well. The human assures me that only seven additional light times must pass before I will be returned to my home.

Why has this happened? How could such an experience befall upon one who is normally quite healthy? It is one of the mysteries of those of us who are of the domesticated Lagomorph family. Our bodies altered by the manipulations of humans who knew not what they wrought. Their attempts, through their choosing of who should partner with whom, to create bodies of specific characteristics that would fulfill their supposed needs. The activity they call breeding.

For me it is a combination of sabatouges by my own body that has created this ill. I am what they call a Rex Rabbit. And before those of you who are fans of the breed called Rex, sound your oohs and ahhs, let me make myself clear. I am no pretty, endearing Rabbit. I am a bit over weight, thanks to this breeding, I have pink eyes, which some humans recoil from, and I bite. I am not a "pet" Bunny.

I have no issue with those that are of the temperament to be the "pet" of a human. We all have our dharma, our work. Mine is to explain myself and my family so that humans may better know both us and themselves. I digress from the issue at hand. I was explaining that I am a Rex, as that is a part of why I am now locked in the bathroom.

You see the breed Rex was created so that humans could have the experience of touching short dense fur which they steal from our bodies. The fur is thinner than that of other Rabbits and so it is thinner on the bottoms of our feet. We are missing the padding to protect the pads of our feet. We, at least those of us of the larger variety, are created to put on weight efficiently. So that we can be slaughtered at an early age. Low amounts of food and care for large amounts of fur and meat. Disgusting, don't you think? The point though is that the added weight I carry puts added pressure on my feet. And that, my friends, is a darn shame.

And so the sore. Luckily the human here uses no cages, so I have not had to deal with the torment of wire bottom cages which are difficult for all Rabbits to deal with, even more so for those of us of the breed Rex.

So here I sit in this room away from my loved ones at a time when I am being called upon to meet with all of you. Perhaps it was a destined event. Perhaps the fates thought it best you know the worse circumstances of my life for the greater good of all. Perhaps this is part of the plan to create more light, to destroy more ignorance.

Would it not be a great and Kind world if we of different species accepted each other as we are? Had humans accepted Rabbits as Mother Nature so lovingly created us, I would not be of this breed called Rex and would not be in my current discomfort. If Rabbits could accept human's desire to bring us into their lives as "pets" perhaps we wouldn't run from them. So many of us are here at The Sanctuary because we refused to accept that our fear was not nessecary. We are overcoming centuries of the use of our bodies for human clothing and food. It is hard for us to accept that your view of us has changed. It is my hope that I can speed our journey to acceptance. Through your understanding of us, perhaps you can help us to understand you. Quite a job has been laid before us.

And as it stands, this small out pouring of information and sentiment is just the beginning towards that end. We, my dear new friends, will have much to discuss.
