Resources & Training in Disaster Rescue Work<
The training that the staff of The Sanctuary received in Disaster Animal Rescue is available to any one interested in the work. Noah's Wish presents seminars across the nation. What started as the vision of Terri Crisp, Noah's Wish founder, and a volunteer force of nine, is now an agency that does rescue in all major disasters and is manned by a volunteer force of over twenty five hundred people.
During a disaster the public can obtain information about the plight and needs of the affected Animals, as well as information about the rescue efforts by visiting the Noah's Wish Website. There is also information at the site regarding how to become an EARS Volunteer and receive the Animals in Disaster Rescue Training.
FEMA Independent Study Course
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has recently completed and is now offering a home study course entitled Animals In Disasters.
This course is a wonderful training tool for obtaining more skills in preparation for Rescue work during Disasters. It will also give participants important information about how emergency management agencies work.

Local Resources
It is also important to know what Disaster Plans your local Shelters and/or Humane Societies have created. It may be that they have training available and volunteer roles that need to be filled. If not this may be something that needs to be created.
Some neighborhood watch groups create disaster plans as well. Small communities with large Animal populations often times create plans to assist community members during emergency situations. Check with local fire departments to see what plans have been created.
As the saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Begin planning now.
