The rats in one of the two tanks above were given a hide box, picture available, which was removed for the sake of taking a picture by the sales person. The second tank of rats were not given a hide box, essential for reducing the stress level for these nocturnal animals forced to live under lights and prodded constantly in a pet store environment during the time they would normally be sleeping. *One rat purchased, diagnosed by veterinarian with upper respiratory illness.
This store is part of a chain that has since dispersed. According to the alleged owner of the Pet Department in San Luis Obispo, he bought out his partner. The Pet Department still exists in Paso Robles, however the partner retaining the stores in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles is changing the name to Pet Star. We recognized many of the same store personnel.
Complaint filed with Atascadero Police Department. All documentation was given to that agency and we have been informed that the case has been given to the District Attorney of San Luis Obispo County.
