The Rescue
We know young babies remained at the site. They would not enter the traps, they would rarely come up out of the burrows we could not dig out as they were under structures, and our time was up. August 8, 2002, was a sad day.

Seven of the adults were spayed early on at the expense of the woman who had started it all. With seven others left to spay immediately, and an additional thirty seven to spay or neuter when they come of age, we still had our work cut out for us. Several cages were put in place for adults and pens were built to house the babies so that they could get the exercise they need for proper bone development. Through the grace of the powers that be, only one needed medical care, this for a lung infection.

Baby BooCommitted to our new charges, we received word from the new home. After transporting the seventeen rabbits to her new home, their caretaker decided to allow them to run around in the car port. She then opened the door to the area so that her chickens could run free in the yard. The rabbits decided to run about as well. Ten of the seventeen were subsequently killed, reportedly by coyotes.

We made the decision not to return the fifty one rabbits in our care to her. She is no longer willing to reimburse us for the cost of their care, our exorbitant transportation costs, or their spay and neuters.

Adding fifty one rabbits to our warren without advance preparation and planning is financially taxing. Your help is needed. There are many opportunities to assist us.

Baby Boos The Rabbit Yard needs to be enlarged, something we were going to do in the spring. The cost of this will be around $1000. A new Rabbit Room must also be built ahead of schedule, this will cost us around $3000. And the estimated cost of spays and neuters is $3000. The care of these rabbits has severely taxed an already severely taxed budget. Our $1000 standing vet bill must be covered as soon as possible. This leaves us with expenditures totaling $8000 which we must raise asap. You can help by donating.
