Vultures can be seen gliding through the air. Especially in the afternoon. They use that time to look for their morning meal. They glide around in circles looking for food. They like to be in places where there are hills and valleys and trees because those things create changes in the temperature of the air above. The different temperature make "thermal air currents." These currents are used by the Vultures to help them glide through the air.
And that description of a landscape perfectly describes The Sanctuary. Plus we have lots little critters running around the hills. And all of that leads to what happened here one afternoon. We see the Vultures everday. Marty and I bark at them if they come to close. One day there was a new smell coming to us from the otherside of the creek. I went looking to see what it was. I found a dead Raccoon. I left it where it was and went to tell Marty and the human, with not a thought about the Vultures. When I came back there was Vulture in the tree looking at the dead Raccoon. I barked and barked and barked and barked. The human came and told me to stop barking. She said I shouldn't be barking. That the Vulture was our friend. Our friend? That's right. The Vultures do a very important job that no one else can do. They protect us! Well I was as surprised as you are. And here's how they do it.
