THE SANCTUARY (KKN) By Elvis Goat January is becoming a very wet month here at The Sanctuary. With rain falling from the sky, residents have found themselves locked up in barns and other indoor housing. A protest was called for by Hillary Donkey who was very upset. "I want out of this barn. It isn't fair that I can't go out and eat grass all day. The rain should stop now." The NaNa Boys, Amos and Andy were not sympathetic to Ms. Hillary. "We're all getting fed twice a day, now that we are locked up. Plus she's fat," the Boys said. Mary Turkey was offended by their comment about Hillary being fat. Her offense was noted, as was her own slightly overweight condition. The Chickens and Peacocks agreed to join the protest, as did the Sheep, who follow Hillary everywhere. Before the protest could get started, a nearby Tree spoke up and offered some surprising information. As the protesters began to gather, Tree called out to them, saying, "Stop right there you guys." She then asked the following questions. |

Tree's Questions: 1. Did you think about where your water comes from? From the Rain! 2. Did you know grass can't grow if it doesn't rain? Just like you, it needs Water. The humans who take care of you can live for a month without food but only a week without Water. 3. Did you know Water keeps the Earth from getting to hot or to cold the same way it helps you stay cool when it is hot in the summer? After these questions the Animals lost some of their desire to protest. Tree did not stop there. She also explained the following. "Water is part of a system. The water on the ground gets picked up by the sun and put in the clouds and then given back to the ground by Rain. Instead of protesting the Rain, you may want to think about how to protect the water so we always have some to drink." The Geese and Ducks flapped their wings and squawcked "Here Here!" Instead of a protest, the Animals began to look at ways to protect the water. A petition was written and signed by all to thank Nature for the gift of Rain. |
