Chloe Marie's Treatment

Chloe Marie Receiving Acupuncture Treatment
 Chloe Marie

We work in rescue. We work with sick animals as well as the healthy ones and it never ceases to amaze us that something can happen that we have never heard of or dealt with before.

Our 10-year-old female Doberman, Chloe Marie, was diagnosed with anal sac carcinoma this year. We took her to Dr. K., her regular vet, for a lesion on her rectum. The carcinoma was found after a biopsy. The biopsy showed a rapid growing aggressive cancer that could not be treated with traditional medicine. Dr. L, the specialty surgeon, called us and told us after completion of an ultrasound that nothing could be done for Chloe.

We adopted Chloe Marie when she was five years old. She was a frightened worried little girl who trusted no one. She became an irreplaceablemember of our family. The report said six months. I looked at Chloe Marie and said NO. We opted to keep Chloe's condition a secret from her.

One great things about being involved with rescue is the resources that become available to you through that network. Aunt J. with KC Doberman Rescue is always our first call when we need help. She recommended Dr. V., an alternative medicine veterinarian.

We met Dr. V. and at our first consultation, we requested a miracle. Instead of looking at us as if we were unable to read the biopsy report, he said he would try. We gave him copies of all reports, along with a list of what she was already getting. Dr.V. is big on Chinese herbs, which he added to Chloe's daily regimen: Wee Qui Booster and Stasis Breaker. Her treatment, including acupuncture to manage pain, requires us to have Chloe at the doctor's office once a week.

Through another friend's advice, we added braised beef heart with grapeseed oil and crushed garlic cloves. We called friends, who know about herbal treatments. We dug out our "Dr. Kidd's Guide to Herbal Dog Care" which we had used as a reference for treating rabbits with herbs. According to the chapter on cancer, these were "safe" herbs to use: Astragalus, Chaparral, Echinacea/Goldenseal, Siberian Ginseng, Pau d'Arco, Esiac Tonic, Cat's Claw, and Red Clover. We got these items at a local health food store, in tincture form. We slowly added these and grass tablets to her meals. We learned to cleanse her aura and made her surroundings peaceful and serene.

Chloe's initial visit to her regular vet was on March 8, 2004. Her biopsy was on July 2. The specialists told us there was nothing they could do on July 13. She has been seeing Dr. V. weekly since July 19. Chloe Marie still has a healthy appetite, still runs and plays and acts like a puppy, jumps and can hop in and out of a 4 wheel drive pickup like there is nothing wrong with her.

Are we healing her? I am not sure I can answer that. I know the tumor does not appear to look any larger and she is not in pain. I know she is happy. I believe the alternative medicine has done that for her.

NOTE: We do NOT recommend treating any illness without the advice of a qualified veterinarian. Without a complete diagnosis, you may not know what you are treating.
